The first step in selecting the perfect house plant for your home is to determine where your plant will live. The floor, a table, or a shelf? This will help you determine what size plant to take home. Four and 6-inch plants are perfect for shelves and tabletops. While larger 8 and 10-inch plants are perfect for filling corners or accenting an entryway.
Styling Tip: Arrange 2 or 3 smaller plants (like snake plants) at varying heights in a large wicker basket. This will add both and width to the area.
Once you determine where your plant will live, look at the lighting conditions of the area. Is there a window nearby? What direction does the window face? If no windows, how much overhead light does the room have?
Areas more than 5 feet from a window, hallways or windowless bathrooms will require a low light plant like ZZ Plant or Spider Plant. Areas within 3 feet of a window are great for medium-light plants like Ficus or Jade Plant. Areas less than 3 feet from a window are perfect for bright-light plants like Aloe Vera and Bromeliad.
House Plants are a great way to add color to your home. Use flowering plants to add long-lasting color, or use variegated foliage plants to add some texture and interest.
House Plants like Ficus Ruby, Red Aglaonema, Croton and Calathea will add pops of color with their different foliage options.
Containers are as much a part of your home’s decor as your furniture and artwork. Select pottery that complements your style. Ceramic, Metal, Terra Cotta, or Lightweight are just a few of the options to chose from.
Consider using drop-in pots so you can change your container seasonally without the hassle of repotting your plant each time.
