Dealing with Uncertain Times
Developing a new normal is key during these ever-evolving times. Right now, we are faced with so many unknowns and our normal routines have turned upside down. Controlling what we can is essential to help manage the unknown. English Gardens Buyer, Holly Dentico-Onkala, has some great advice for how she is navigating today’s new normal.
I’m a functional but anxious person. A people pleaser. On a normal day, I’m disappointed when I don’t do as well as I’d like, but it doesn’t debilitate me. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, I made the decision to practice social distancing. The uncertainty in the world was causing my anxiety to go through the roof. I realized I needed to help myself when I lost my cool over very simple things.
Anxiety continues to come waves for me. One moment I can be watching a favorite movie, and the next minute I’m sobbing because I am so worried for our world.
Developing a new routine has been essential for me. I start every day with my vitamins. I now incorporate CBD into that routine. CBD is said to promote anxiety relief and better sleep. Solid sleep boosts your immunity.

Besides taking CBD regularly, I’ve made some other daily changes. Spending my breaks outside in the daylight has replaced my regularly scheduled spring vacation. I have also started doing projects around my house that I would normally put off or not consider at all. As soon as the weather turns nice, I clean up my yard or give my patio furniture a good scrubbing. I also decided to hang some lights around my yard.
Being in the garden center business, I normally don’t go all out on my own home. I stay busy with the stores. However, this year my yard will be my oasis. With my new-found stay at home weekends, I fully intend on starting my first garden and making it work for-real-this-time. I have a new opportunity to see where in my yard I have light during the day and where exactly I can squeeze in some color!
While I’m stuck inside I’m taking extra good care of my plants, starting seeds, and still listening to the birds sing. They say when it rains to look for rainbows. There are rainbows out there! I am choosing to see them!
