Christmas Tree Sales and Tree Lots in Movies and TV

The Christmas tree is one of the most iconic symbols of the holiday season. It’s become so ubiquitous that movies and tv often have a Christmas tree sale scene. Whether a comedy romp or a heartwarming meet-cute, Christmas tree sales are a joy this time of year. So what are some of the best Christmas tree sales scenes? Here is a list of our favorites.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

In National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, the Griswold family trudges through a deep snowy landscape to find the perfect tree. A ray of heavenly light shines down on the most fantastic tree anyone has ever seen. After the Christmas tree sale, the family takes the huge tree home. As you might expect, hilarity ensues, along with massive house destruction. This is the perfect example of a comedy Christmas tree sale.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

For something that tugs at your heartstrings and is excellent for all ages, a Charlie Brown Christmas features a Christmas tree sale with much more meaning. In the 1965 animated classic, Charlie Brown wants to create a proper Christmas mood with a tree, and Lucy recommends the aluminum trees that are all the rage. But Charlie Brown has other ideas and goes to the Christmas tree sale to pick the only remaining real tree – a sad, small tree branch. While everyone makes fun of Charlie Brown for his choice, the tree becomes the centerpiece for a story about the true meaning of Christmas.

A Christmas Story

Another comedy classic featuring a Christmas tree sale is A Christmas Story, the tale of Ralphie and a holiday filled with calamity. At the Christmas tree lot, Ralphie’s father bargains for a tree. They look at trees that aren’t perfect. Ralphie narrates how his “old man” loves nothing more than negotiating in this funny scene where the Christmas tree salesman and Ralphie’s father feel like they have the upper hand.

Hallmark Movie Meet-Cutes

Christmas tree sales are ubiquitous in every Hallmark Holiday movie where a stressed businesswoman shows up in a small town and meets the attractive single man in a sweater. They’re all the same formula but with different scenarios. The meet-cute at the Christmas tree lot is so typical that several Christmas romance movies have been set in them entirely.
