Light
Native to the floor of the tropical rainforest, Calathea plants are used to filtered light. They cannot tolerate bright light, so keep your plant in an area with bright, indirect light for best results.
Calathea plants can tolerate some shade, but their leaf’s variegation will start to fade over time if not given enough light.
Water
Calathea plants prefer to have consistently moist (not wet!) soil. Ideally, give your plant a little water often rather than watering it deeply less often.
Fertilizer
Calatheas need regular feedings. Use a half-strength house plant fertilizer every two weeks during the spring and summer. Do not fertilize during the fall and winter.
