Flowering Plants for Fall
As fall sweeps in with cool nights and crisp days, it’s nice to have plants in your garden that show the change in season as well! We have a great selection of annual and perennial plants that are both cold tolerant plants and have either striking flowers or foliage.
Here’s a selection of perennials and annuals fit with flowers for the fall:
Asters
Perennial
Asters bear loads of pink, blue, purple and white flowers that are pretty in a vase on your kitchen table, and of course in your garden.
Russian Sage
Perennial
Russian Sage provides beautiful purple flowers during the fall. It’s tough as nails and both the foliage and blooms have a great scent.
Fall Sunflower
Perennial
While most gardeners are familiar with the big-blooming annual sunflowers (which are beautiful!), it’s the perennial selections that are the true garden gems. There are different varieties, such as ‘Lemon Queen’ that produces gorgeous creamy-yellow blooms.
Sedum
Perennial
One of the quintessential autumn plants, sedum bursts into bloom at summer’s end. This tough plant is extremely heat and drought tolerant, looking great in your garden no matter what.
Japanese Anemone
Perennial
A beautiful and dainty cut flower, Japanese anemone produces large poppy-shaped pink or white flowers on tall stems at the end of the season.
Anise Hyssop
Perennial
This tough, drought tolerant perennial looks beautiful for months in the summer and fall when it’s covered with spikes of lavender-blue and licorice-scented flowers.
Sweet Autumn Clematis
Perennial
Beating one of the season’s best scents, sweet autumn clematis covers itself with fragrant white flowers at the season’s end.
Supertunia Black Cherry Petunia
Annual
Supertunia petunias are vigorous with slightly mounded habits that function as both fillers and spillers in containers. They are also excellent landscape plants, best suited to be placed near the front of beds. They have medium to large sized flowers. Black Cherry Petunias will add a richly-hued red cherry color.
Supertunia Honey Petunia
Annual
Supertunia Honey features an incredible ever-changing array of yellow, orange, salmon, and pink blossoms on mounding, well-branched plants. It doesn’t mind the heat or cool nights, and will bloom vigorously in containers and landscapes.
Anytime Sugarplum Pansiola Viola
Annual
Pansiolas are vigorous trailing plants that will add their delicate yet gorgeous blossoms to your landscape or container gardens.
Sunsatia Blood Orange Nemesia
Annual
The colors on the petite blossoms range from glowing bright hues to the softest pastels. Sunsatia holds its own in both cool and hot temperatures, and is outstanding in hanging baskets, container gardens and window boxes.
Dark Knight Sweet Alyssum Lobularia
Annual
Masses of fragrant flowers grace mounded plants, ideal as both a border plant in the landscape or in a container. Dark Knight’s tolerance of the cold will allow it to bloom into the fall.
Superbells Grape Punch Calibrachoa
Annual
Abundant, small petunia-like flowers will appear all season on cascading growth. Superbells superb color, heat tolerance, disease resistance and large blooms make this series a star performer. With growth habits that range from small and compact to the cascading, Superbells create endless possibilities in containers.
Superbells Pomegranate Punch Calibrachoa
Annual
The rich, velvety red flowers with a black eye will pop in the garden. Calibrachoa do not like to have constantly damp soil. They will do well in the ground only with good drainage. For most gardeners containers are the best use for Calibrachoa.
Superbells Tropical Sunrise Calibrachoa
Annual
The petite flowers grace cascading plants that are great in combinations, mono-hanging baskets and in raised beds with great drainage. Like the two above, this Superbell is a perfect choice for your garden.
